Staying current is the art of the job.

If you support career changers and job seekers, then thinking that “I haven’t had time to keep up” is understandable…

…but it’s also risky.

Careers don’t stand still.

Hiring systems change.

Candidate expectations shift.

Platforms evolve.

Economic conditions swing.

And the strategies that worked last year can quickly become today’s bad advice.

As career professionals, we carry a responsibility to keep our guidance current enough that our clients aren’t paying the price for outdated playbooks.

Think of it like CPR certification: you wouldn’t say, “I learned it once, I’m good forever.”

Career strategy is similar. If you don’t refresh it, you can unintentionally do harm (or at least waste someone’s time).

How to stay current

One of the cleanest ways to stay up to date on trends and real-world strategy is being selective with what lands in your inbox.

Below are six newsletters I recommend to career professionals who want to keep their work relevant, ethical, and effective.

1) Career Briefs

By Sarah Johnston (Briefcase Coach)

Best for: Executive career strategy and senior-level market shifts

Why it’s useful: Better language for leadership positioning, clearer perspective on what’s changing at the top.

2) Jobsearch.guide

By Jan Tegze (Talent Acquisition Leader)

Best for: Recruiter-insider perspective

Why it’s useful: Keeps your advice aligned with how sourcing, screening, and recruiter decision-making actually work.

3) Teal Talk

By Teal

Best for: Modern job search strategy and practical systems

Why it’s useful: Helpful “how-to” tactics you can adapt into assignments, checklists, and client workflows.

4) Career Accelerator

By Adrienne Tom (Career Impressions)

Best for: Senior-level resumes and executive branding

Why it helps us as practitioners: Strengthens how you teach impact, scope, leadership story, and results, especially for higher-level clients.

5) Career Essentials

By Hannah Morgan

Best for: Interview strategy that’s structured and teachable

Why it helps us as practitioners: Adds sharper frameworks for prep, storytelling, and performance without generic “just be confident” advice.

And of course, yours truly:

6) Career Edge

By Heather Maietta (Career In Progress)
